Fitnessia-Week 3

Hello readers!

I hope you all had an illuminating and a wonderful Diwali, now after a sweet break we are back with FITNESSIA edition. This blog is all about the 3rd , that was the last week of FITNESSIA 2022.

Just to brief you guys in short ‘FITNESSIA-30 HOURS OF FITNESS AND FUN’ was a 30-hour fitness program which covered 20 different activities focusing not only on physical health but also on mental and emotional well-being.

  • Monday 26th September:  GYM 101 by Mr. Pankaj Manjrekar.

Now-a-days everyone has become a gym freak, they want to stay fit and be in better shape but are not much aware about their own body and how to use the gym equipments efficiently. Our instructor Pankaj sir cleared all our doubts regarding the use of different gym equipment’s and also guided us how to not use it so that we don't harm ourselves while exercising. Altogether, it was an informative and useful session for all the gym freaks out there.

  • We had two workshops on Tuesday 27th September: Laughter Yoga Workshop by Sunder Bishnoi and Confession Box by Anwita Dixit.

Laughter Yoga is not a comedy in fact it is an exercise program developed by Indian physician Dr Madan Kataria where anyone and everyone can laugh without relying on humour, jokes or comedies. This workshop was all about that. Our instructor made us seamlessly laugh. Along with that we also got to know how important laughter is in our life. It not only makes our inner self happy but laughter is so contagious that it makes people around us also happy.

We always want someone around us who we can share things with. There is a lot going on in everyone's mind but we are scared to talk about it. The whole idea of this session was to talk our hearts out by staying anonymous and it became so easy with the help of Anvita ma'am. It was such an interactive session. A lot of things that were in our heads got cleared out and we got to know how people have different perspectives in life relating to similar situations

  • Wednesday 28th September: Aerobics Workshop by Mr. Sandesh Bare.

Aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercises with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness. This session started with Sir explaining to us about aerobics and taught us a few steps and we performed these steps on different Bollywood songs. It was quite a refreshing and an energetic session.

  • Thursday 29th September: Self Defense Workshop by Miss. Muskaan Tinani.

Self-defense has become one of the most important aspects in everybody's life. Basic self-defense techniques are something we all must know. To educate our participants regarding it, our instructor Ms. Muskaan Tinani taught us accessible and easy to grasp techniques such as blocks, hand twists, sweep and fall and many more. Altogether it was a very knowledgeable and helpful session.

  • Saturday 1st October again we had to two workshops: Breath Focus by Bhumi Dali and HIIT Workshop by Irfan Qureshi.

Breath focus helps you concentrate on slow, deep breathing and aids you in disengaging from distracting thoughts and sensations. Our instructor Bhumi ma’am first made us do some simple breathing exercises, followed by some partner exercises in which we focused on breathing movements of our own and of our partner. Overall, it was an interactive and peaceful session.

HIIT involves short bursts of intense exercise alternated with low intensity recovery periods. Our HIIT workshop began with some warm up, followed by a bit of intensive exercises such as planks, jumping jacks, etc. Our instructor Irfan sir also shared with us various exercises to enhance our strength and stamina. Altogether it was a very power pact session.

  • Sunday 2nd October: Dance Therapy Workshop by Madhuri Talim which was conducted online.

Dance therapy is the use of movement to promote emotional, social, and physical integration of the individual, for the purpose of improving health and well-being. Our instructor helped us by making us comfortable with our own body by the use of small movements. The workshop was all about how we can use dance for self-awareness and peace. Overall, it was a very calming session.

  • Tuesday 4th October: Garba Workshop by Pooja Saraf.

Since Navratri season was going on we decided to have this garba session. Garba is usually considered as an energetic dance form. We got to learn so many different garba steps from our instructor. There were a variety of colours, dresses, and cultures all around us. All in all, it was a really vibrant and colourful sight for the eyes. Nothing could have been better than ending fitnessia on this note.

These are all the fun and exciting workshops we had for almost a month for Fitnessia 2022. It was really an amazing experience for everyone. Stay tuned for Fitnessia 2023.

Happy Reading!

See you all next week.

Yoga for yourself

What’s your Diwali Yoga Avatar out of these 4?

‘Diwali’ is derived from the Sanskrit word “deepa,” which is “light,” and “vali,” which means “row,” essentially a row of lights. A festival united with a lot of emotions, stories, food, colors, lights, love, happiness. This is the time when many of us get into unhealthy eating and binge eating leading to harmful repercussions. Enjoying the festival and having fun while also preparing for Diwali becomes difficult, and our bodies are frequently pushed beyond their limits. In the process of all these preparations, fatigue and laziness forces us to rest and relax. Having rest is important, especially because returning to work and a normal routine becomes difficult if adequate rest is not given to our body. Yoga can aid in relaxation, detoxification, and fatigue relief. It also builds core strength, sheds unnecessary fat, and develops body awareness, which helps to control our weight.

Let’s get going with some interesting yoga poses. Define a new you this diwali.

Be a Candle.

  1. Candle Pose: Take a mat, lie on your back. Raise your legs to the sky or gently rest them on well. Maintain your arms at your sides. Take a few deep breaths and hold this pose. This pose helps to give a good stretch to your shoulders and legs resulting in toning your abs. More benefits include reduced fluid retention in the lower body, and bringing back deoxygenated blood flow to the heart.

Be a Dancer.

  1. Natarajasana: Place yourself like a mountain. Bend one foot up and grasp it with your same sided hand. Lean forward and lift your other hand toward the wall. Try to keep your balance for a few breaths. It helps enhance concentration and balance, postural awareness, proprioception (a sense of the body's movement in space). It increases the body's energy, combat fatigue, and boosts confidence.

Be a Lizard.

  1. Utthan Pristhasana: In Sanskrit Utthan means to stretch out, Pristha means the page of a book. Lizard pose can be intense for your hips depending on how flexible you are. Begin with a Downward Dog, making sure your feet are apart and tuck your chin under your chest. Put forward your right foot forming a lunge position. Lower your left foot to the ground, keep your back straight. Slowly lower your forearms and back flat. Remember that your head should be in line with your spine. Press onto the ball of your left foot as you go on straightening your left leg. Now hold the pose and then repeat on the other side. It enhances the flexibility of inner thigh muscles, calms your mind, controls stress and helps reduce extra belly fat.

Be a Camel.

  1. Ustrasana: All of us go through terrible lower back pain in our day to day life. May it be from completing your assignments to studying for tests a few days before, our back always suffers. This is when Utrasana comes into picture. Start practicing the pose according to the further instructions: Spread your legs and bend your knees hip-width apart. Inhale while engaging your belly, also maintain your hips over your knees, squeeze your thighs together. Make a space between your lower vertebrae, with your tailbone facing your knees. Inhale while drawing your elbows back, toward each other, behind you. Drape your fingers over the soles and press the heels of your hands into the heels of your feet. Lift your shoulder and extend the head and neck backward.

We hope this blog does justice to the yoga poses you really wanted to try for a very long time. Don’t forget to tell us in the comment which avatar you would like to be this diwali? A candle, a dancer, a lizard or is it a camel? Well I would want to be a Camel since my lower back is hurting a lot these days. We are extremely excited to know from you, your Diwali Yoga Avatar. Thank you for your patient reading. See you again in our next blog.

SYNC is the Fitness and Wellness club of H.R. College wherein we organise many fitness related activities and events for our members. Our major Focus is on fostering the physical, mental and emotional well-being of every other individual.

So to take a step forward we came up with this 30 hours program which includes both fitness and fun.

It was a power packed 20 days of numerous workshops like Folk Dance, Sequence Yoga Workshop,  Nutritional Therapy, Music Therapy, Zumba workshop, Art Therapy, 7 chakras of the body, Unwind your Mind, Reiki Workshop, Bollywood Dance Workshop, Symmetry and Synergy, GYM 101, Laughter yoga Workshop, Confession box, Aerobics Workshop, Self Defence Workshop, Breath Focus, Hiit Workshop,Dance Therapy and Garba Workshop with the best of instructors in the town.

Coming onto the specific topic for this blog, this time we will be taking a quick run-through of Week 2 of FITNESSIA held from 19th September to 23rd September.

Following are the workshops that were a part of Week 2:-

(1)7 CHAKRAS OF THE BODY

Every human body is segregated by seven chakras namely crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root which are considered wheels of energy which give wholesome energy to an individual for his/her future endeavours. These Chakras can be activated by mantras and meditation. Each chakra has its own mantras and mudras that can be opened using the right mantras and mudras. This workshop helped the participant to energise their spiritual and mental space.

(2)UNWIND YOUR MIND

Unwind your Mind- A Mental Peace session was set up with an aim of clarifying and putting some light on the state of mind of an individual by resolving their queries and questions relating to the same. Peace of mind is usually associated with joy, merriness, calmness, prayer, yoga, meditation and a few more aspects. Mental Well-being indicates the deliberate state of spiritual calm and the potential of stressors such as the burden arising from pretending to perform at an optional level with a positive mind and internal peace.

(3)REIKI WORKSHOP

Reiki is a form of complementary therapy relating to energy healing. Professionals say that it works with the energy fields around the body and involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner's palms to the client. Basically, it involves hand movements and touches.

(4)BOLLYWOOD DANCE WORKSHOP

Well well well, can see you grooving on the best of bollywood beats reading this title! Bollywood dancing is a colourful, dynamic and highly theatrical dance style seen in Indian films. It combines classical forms of dance including traditional Indian, folk, salsa, belly-dance while also consists of more contemporary western forms such as hip hop and jazz. Lots of dance, music, fun, energy, smiles and a really good time- all that we had at this workshop. One can definitely term it as one of the best workshops.

(5)SYMMETRY AND SYNERGY WORKSHOP

Parallelism is all about maintaining and coordinating with all your body parts. Learning how to control and balance your body parts effectively is very essential in today's times. Comprehending various parts of the human body and focusing on each one of them precisely plays a vital role in gaining overall balance and coordination.

This was all about Week 2 of FITNESSIA. A week full of fresh and unique ways of seeking relaxation in our day to day lives.

See you next week!

Fitnessia week 1

Heyyy guysssssss! Back again with the magical mondayy blog and this time its all about fitnessia's 1st week!

So now What is fitnessia?

Its power pack 30 hrs fitness sessions all over 20 days for the very first time in the life history of sync and this blog is about its 1st week!

So we started with Folk dance and ended with art therapy for the 1st week. Lets have a glance at all if them one by one:

Folk dance - As soon as we hear dance, it has to be something very amazing and fun filled and no doubt it was! Mr Abhishek Walekar who thaught us Folk Dance filled the workshop with his exuberant energy and made it the most mesmerized one! And as people say we should start anything by remembering and praying lord ganesha and so did we by doing a dance workshop on ganpati vandana/stuti.

Sequence Yoga - Doing yoga in proper chronological yo make it more beneficial is what is sequence yoga. Ms Priti made it super interesting by her chronologies and interesting combinations which not only adds more benefits then normal yoga but also makes it easier for us to practice. The 100 sec challenge, which was given by the instructor made it more fun and happening!

Nutritional Therapy - Nutrition is nothing but keeping yourself healthy by eating healthy stuff and provide your body with the correct amount of proteins, vitamins and minerals. This sounds so boring but Dr Geetanjali and her recipies can even make healthy diet food water your tongue. She also made a few types of salad and dips to show the magic of her recipies with diet food!

Music therapy- They say that "Music has healing powers, it has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours."

Music therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses the naturally mood-lifting properties of music to help people improve their mental health and overall well-being. This was indeed what was taught to us in the workshop by Mr. Roshan Manshukhani , a music therapist. He graced the room with his magical aura and put everyone in awe with his therapeutic healing beats.

Zumba Workshop- Zumba is not only a plus for your physical health but also helps you heal mentally. This genre of dance features high and low-intensity intervals that help improve cardiovascular fitness while also enhancing balance, coordination, agility, and to some degree, strength. The workshop was taught by the energetic Manasi Katkar. Her skillful, fabulous moves did amaze everyone and enlightened thier Mood.

Art Therapy- "Art is like Therapy. What comes up is what comes up. You may want to keep some of it in a drawer but never judge it" - Nick Bantock.

Art is an expression which helps some people to convey their emotions while some to heal themselves. This workshop was taught by Molshree jain who introduced the humble beginnings of mandala art and its forms to the students.
